Who is this course for?
- People who want a career as a part-time or full-time professional hypnotist working in areas such as smoking cessation, weight control, stress management, sports or study skill improvement. Hypnosis is not a licensed profession in virtually every state in the United States including Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
- Licensed mental health counselors, physicians, nurse practitioners or other healthcare providers who wish to add hypnosis to their skill set.
- There are no educational prerequisites for this course though the National Guild of Hypnotists requires that anyone certified under their organization not have been convicted of a felony and agree to adhere to an Ethical Code.
Course Description:
Completion of this 100 hour course (75 hours classroom and 25 hours homework) satisfies the requirements of the National Guild of Hypnotists for certification as a Certified Hypnotist, Consulting Hypnotist or Certified Hypnotherapist . Students are qualified to work as a hypnotist or hypnotherapist as a separate, distinct profession or to use hypnosis in conjunction with another practice such as that of a licensed mental health counselor, psychotherapist or psychiatrist or other medical professional.
This is an intensive program with a great deal of hands-on practice. You will be asked to recruit volunteers from among your friends and family to visit the class so students will have a chance to practice with people and receive feedback.
There is a final examination that must be passed and attendance at all classes is required unless prior notification is given and some form of make-up arranged.
Cost: $2150 (includes one year free certified membership in the National Guild of Hypnotists and all materials) – there will be a $300 early enrollment discount.

- How to set up your hypnosis practice and build your client base

Specific topics to be covered include:
SUGGESTIBILITY TESTS
The purpose and types (authoritarian and permissive) are discussed, demonstrated and practiced.
RECOGNITION & CLASSIFICATION OF SUBJECTS.
An in-depth discussion of the qualification of subjects, including common fallacies we encounter, occupational susceptibility, age and susceptibility of highly impressionable and emotional people.
HOW TO HYPNOTIZE
Several induction techniques are taught and practiced and all participants are critiqued.
METHODS OF EMERGENCE
Emergence awakening methods are demonstrated. Participants practice a self-hypnosis induction and awaken themselves.
DEPTH STAGES OF HYPNOSIS
Participants are introduced to the six depth stages of hypnosis and the criteria for judging trance depth.
SUGGESTION MANAGEMENT
Participants will learn the rationale for using self-hypnosis and how it can influence all phases of their lives. In addition, they will be introduced to the world of suggestion.
INFLUENCEING FACTORS IN HYPNOSIS
In this lesson we discuss conditions favorable or unfavorable toward induction of hypnosis.
SELF-HYPNOSIS TRAINING
A 3-step method is demonstrated and participants actually construct their own system for teaching a complete program.
SESSIONS WITH A CLIENT
Participants are taught to structure sessions with clients, including the development of actual treatment plans.
ASSESSMENT, GOAL SETTING AND REINFORCEMENT
This lesson introduces – through interactive discussions and application exercises – the methodology to develop a plan to address the client’s issues.
IMAGERY AND HYPNOSIS
Through case studies, role-play activities and illustrations, the practical applications of using imagery in conjunction with proven ego-strengthening techniques are explored and practiced.
YOUR HYPNOSIS PRACTICE AND MARKETING ? HOW SHOULD IT BE STRUCTURED?
The varied possibilities and options open to enhance a profitable hypnosis practice are explored. This includes how to start, expand and market your private practice. The methodology and structure of developing
INSTRUCTOR
John Koenig is a Board Certified Hypnotist (National Guild of Hypnotists) who has maintained a successful hypnosis practice in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts since 1998 under the practice name Possibilities Hypnosis. He is also certified to offer this course as a Certified Instructor of the National Guild of Hypnotists.
Mr. Koenig holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (Hofstra University, 1970) and a Master’s Degree in Literature (National University of Ireland, 1971). He is also a Certified Instructor with the National Guild of Hypnotists authorized to certify students into the NGH upon completion of the course. John is the author of The Hypnotic Coach (2015). DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED
POLICIES
Attendance at all classes is suggested and encouraged. Reasonable allowances will be made for necessary absences with arrangements to make up missed work. There is a final examination; however, students will be given a chance to re-take the test if necessary.
